In 2011, I went to the James River with my sister, two of my cousins, and my uncle. I don't think I would have really remembered this trip if my uncle hadn't taken a lot of photos. This was back when I was a chubbier college student, and my sister and cousins were just little kids.
But I'm glad he took all of those photos, because it reminds me of a good memory in a good place.

So what have you done on your sabbatical so far?
Meals that I've cooked:
- Broccoli cheddar soup at my friend's house
- Chicken fajitas (using a recipe that said friend has been raving about) and pico de gallo
- Strawberry pizza...it's been way too long since I last made this!
- Poke
- Cinnamon swirl oven pancakes...twice!
- Brussels sprouts, bacon, and onion (yes, using my recipe!) with my favorite pierogies, Poppy's
Books/Movies:
- re-read The Little Prince
- watched Mary and Max
Songs I've discovered:
- WATERMELON - uhh, this was technically pre-sabbatical, but it was really cool, and I want to check out more of MEZERG's work
- Victoria's Secret - So cool to hear Jax on the radio, and it's such a catchy song with a great message
Website updates:
- Added support for image carousels on this blog
- Added a search feature to the food blog
- Got back to updating the Teochew site (!!!)
- And wrote some blog posts!
Birffday treats:
- Birthday lunch at Page's - my favorite ice cream spot, with the best hamburger in Pittsburgh
- Free Mad Mex burrito with my birthday friend
- Fancy dinner at Alta Via with two birthday friends
- Walked to Panera, where the person working there let me use my free birthday pastry on a kitchen sink cookie (even though they're not supposed to)
Around Pittsburgh:
- Finally got back to playing DDR at D&B, twice!
- Lay down on the fountain in Point State Park
- Ran to the Highland Park reservoir and back
- Went to the Squirrel Hill library and found...no books that anyone recommended to me, haha. But I'm thinking I want to check out the other Carnegie libraries
...and Virginia:
- Took a walk to the James River and got lost on the way back. But I really enjoyed seeing the leaves fall.
Random:
- I've been journaling my sabbatical experience. Like, pen and paper. It's good to write it down.
- I tried a Choco Taco! It was not good. Seriously. I can see why they discontinued it.
- I drove all the way from my apartment to my grandma's house without using my GPS. That's about six hours. I actually looked up the directions in advance and wrote them down.
- I have rejoined the Gaginang discord server. IT IS HAPPENING.

So you're finally on your sabbatical, and the first thing you do is write an image carousel?
Uhh, yeah. And then I updated it again today.
When I first designed this site, I didn't want any images to be displayed. Text only. It wasn't until I saw a friend's website that I was inspired to add them at all. I finally saw a way that I could include images without it disrupting the theme of my site.
And every once in a while, I find that it's helpful to have multiple images in a single post, and I wanted it to be easier to navigate them.
I also updated my flimkit mobile app. Hopefully lots more to come!

A little over two years ago, my money tree was thriving. I don't really know what has all happened since then, but five trees have gone down to two, and it's really struggling now. My gut feel, completely unscientific theory on this is that I haven't given it the attention it requires. I used to stare at that thing 20 times a day, every day. Sure, I just pulled a number out of my butt, but I feel like it's pretty close to the truth.
So, last week, while I was doing surgery on my plant and removing one of the dead trees, I decided that I would try and save the last two standing.
In the past, when I was staring at the tree a lot, I would look for tiny little sprouts, and watch them grow bigger and bigger each day. Last week, I picked out a tiny set of leaves, and I think it's actually grown a bit!
